The 9th International Symposium on the Teacher Training in East Asia

Teacher training faculties and universities in East Asia hold an international symposium once a year, with the location of the event rotating between Japan, China and South Korea, through the International Consortium for Universities of Education in East Asia, for which this university is responsible for the executive office in Japan. This year, the 9th International Symposium on the Teacher Training in East Asia was organized by the Korea National University of Education in South Korea. This event was attended by more than 150 visitors over the two-day period of November 4-5.

There were a number of attendees at this event from Tokyo Gakugei University. They included Toshisada Deguchi (President), Tadashi Hasegawa (Executive Vice-President), Takeshi Fujii (Vice-President), Professor Yasuyuki Iwata, Associate Professor Makoto Shimoda and Kim Bumsu (Specially-appointed Professor), as well as four doctoral students and Professor Motohiro Ozawa from the United Graduate School (Saitama University).

There was a keynote speech on the application of ICT with the theme of “SMART Education and Teacher Education in the Digital Era” during the morning on the first day of the event. In the afternoon, oral presentations and poster sessions were held to present research. A decision was made in the general conference in the evening to hold the symposium at Aichi University of Education next year. Moreover, approval was given to the Mongolian National University of Education to join the consortium. On the second day, there were opportunities for the active exchange of research with reports on international joint research by Professor Iwata, Associate Professor Makoto Shimoda (both from this university) and Professor Yasuhiro Owaki (from Osaka Kyoiku University), as well as sessions held by young researchers.

The International Consortium for Universities of Education in East Asia has been promoting various activities under the cooperation of 43 teacher training faculties and universities in East Asia centered on Tokyo Gakugei University, Osaka Kyoiku University, Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, Seoul National University of Education and Kongju National University, but with approval given to the Mongolian National University of Education to join the consortium at this event, this consortium expects to further develop as an opportunity to conduct international joint research, student exchanges and exchanges of teaching staff in the future.
