WORKSHOP ON INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN AND MULTIMEDIA DEVELOPMENT

- A tentative outline of the workshop activities -

Date:   November 18 - 20 1999

Venue: Computer Laboratory Room, St. Paul College, QC, the Philippines

 

Objectives:

At the end of this Workshop, participants will be able to

(1) get clearer image about communication technologies such as multimedia and the Internet in education and training

(2) describe the significance of multimedia and the Internet in education and training

(3) draw an illustration on the fundamentals of instructional design with multimedia

(4) create a piece of multimedia materials for presentation, homepage or CAI

(5) demonstrate and appraise their products

(6) express their will to create multimedia software and to utilize them in their education and training situation

 

Activities:

Day 1 (Thursday 18th November)

09:00 - 10:30  Informal opening ceremony followed by exchanging information and experience on the development and utilization of communication technologies such as multimedia and the Internet in education and training

10:30 - 11:00  Tea break

11:00 - 12:00 Browsing homepages with the Internet facilities and/or observe several sample courseware of CAI followed by the discussion on the fundamentals of design of the process of teaching-learning process and layout of displays, control technology for several peripherals such as CD, Sound Tape-recorder/player, VTR/VCR, LD, DVD etc., development of multimedia and the Internet

  12:00 - 13:00  Lunch

13:00 - 15:00  Preparatory work (1)

- Initial design of T/L process and layout of displays with texts, sounds, still images and/or movies, and scenario writing of the target materials or CAI courseware

  - Collecting or gathering resource materials

* with the use of word-processing software, the Internet, digital still camera, VTR camera, VTR, CD, microphone and scanner, texts, images and movies will be stored onto the Input/Output storage devices such as floppy diskette, HD, zip, MO, PCMCIA storage card, memory stick etc. Printers are also useful.

15:00 - 15:30  Coffee break

15:30 - 17:00  Preparatory work (2)

- Editing and/or modifying the resource materials

* with the use of software such as word-processing software, PaintBrush, PhotoDraw, Photoshop, Paintshop, CorelDraw, Premiere, Videoshop etc., the resource materials on the storage will be modified and edited in color, size and/or shape with special effects, in accordance with the initial design of materials or CAI courseware.

 

Day 2 (Friday 19th November)

09:00 - 10:30  Creation of target materials and/or CAI courseware (1)

                 - Presentation material

* with MS PowerPoint, resource materials prepared will be layout in accordance with your powerful sensitivity or feeling as well as the objectives you want to achieve, while at anytime with the capability of multitask function of the personal computers the resource materials will be refined continuously to make them much more sense in total image of the right target material and also several resource materials will be newly added responding to your new idea raised as well as the objectives of the target material. So that in this stage also Input/Output devices and software used in the Preparatory works (1) and (2) will be again useful.  

                 - Homepage

* with MS Word, MS FrontPage, Homepage Builder by IBM etc. the same procedure as those in Presentation material up-stated will be applied to create a piece of your homepage, while some programming language, HTML language, will be needed if you want your home page much more complicated and attractive.

                 - CAI courseware

* with Authorware by Macromedia Co. Ltd., the same procedure will also be applied to create a piece of your own CAI courseware.

11:00 - 12:00  Creation of target materials and/or CAI courseware (2)

                 - Presentation

- Final check

* that of the materials created whether they will work as what you want and/or whether they will be able to achieve the objectives you defined beforehand.

 

Day 3 (Saturday 20th, November)

  09:00 - 10:30 Presentation and appraisal of target materials created by each participant and/or several groups

11:00 - 12:00  Summary discussion coping with several view points for evaluating multimedia materials followed by informal closing ceremony
