Welcome to the English language website of the Music Education Division at Tokyo Gakugei University (TGU). The Music Education Division is the largest in Japan, responsible for training music teachers for all levels of instruction.
The TGU Music Education Division offers both Masters and Doctoral degrees, as the flagship campus of a coalition of universities devoted to developing Japan`s future educational leaders. The program involves four leading public universities within the greater Tokyo area: TGU, Saitama University, Chiba University, and Yokohama National University.

TGU also actively seeks to expand its international profile, both by sending student and faculty members abroad and accepting students from other countries. We aim to increase the number of international students in our university, and music education division, from around the globe. Music teachers, music education researchers, and students funded either by the government of Japan or private resources, will find a comfortable study environment at TGU.

In recent years, students and researchers from a variety of ethnic and national backgrounds have participated in the TGU Music Education Division: from throughout Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, United Kingdom (England), Inner Mongolia, People`s Republic of China, Taiwan, Korea, and the United States of America.

With professors researching music education in such places as Germany, England, Okinawa, the USA, and China, the TGU Music Education Division is the most international music education program in Japan. The TGU Music Education Division seeks to become a center for music education research in East Asia.
