教材に含まれる語彙レベルを測定する
教材を考えるときに、そこに含まれる語彙の難易度について考える必要があります。そこで、教材に含まれる語彙がどれくらい難しいかを測定するサイトやソフトを以下に紹介します。


ウェブサイトに直接テキストを入力して分析する場合
Frequency Level Checker : http://language.tiu.ac.jp/flc/

東京国際大学のJoyce Maeda助教授を中心に開発されたプログラムです。ウェブサイト上に英文を入力すると、英文に含まれる語彙が以下のように色分け表示されます。ホームページ上で、簡単に語彙レベルをチェックする事ができます。自分が見たい単語をクリックすると、その単語の分析結果にジャンプするので便利。また、分析結果ではTypesとFamiliesの数も表示されます。

Level 1 1000語レベル(最も頻繁に使われる1000語とそのWord families)
Level 2 2000語レベル(2番目に最も頻繁に使われる1000語とそのWord families)
Level 3 2800語レベル(学校で読むリーディング教材などで使われるLevel 1&2に含まれない800語)
Outside Levels 上記の3つのレベル外の単語
Symbols 句読点や改行記号、空白など


パソコンにソフトウェアをインストールして分析する場合(Windows用)

ビクトリア大学のPaul Nation教授が作成した分析プログラムをウェブサイトから無量でダウンロードできます。Windows用のプログラムです。

    (ア) 別表1に示す語を含めて、900語程度までの語(季節、月、曜日、時間、天気、数(序数を含む)、家族などの日常生活に関わる基本的な語を含む)
    (イ) 連語のうち基本的なもの
    (ウ) 慣用表現のうち、excuse me, I see, I'm sorry, thank you, you're welcom, for exampleなど基本的なもの
