SCOPE

In our modern society, demands for high damping materials are increasing so as to cope with increasing noise problems and vibration problems in a variety of fields such as fine machineries, nano-technologies, electric machine industries, transportation industries, energy industries, etc. The first International Symposium on High Damping Materials (HDM 2002) was held in August, 2002 in Tokyo. As the succession of HDM 2002 and utilizing the occasion of The 14th International Conference on Internal Friction and Mechanical Spectroscopy (ICIFMS-14), which is scheduled to be held in Kyoto, Japan in September 2005, the Second International Symposium on High Damping Materials (HDM-2) is organized as a satellite symposium of ICIFMS-14 in connection to it at the same venue.

Among the topics related to high damping materials, mechanisms of high damping are presented mainly in ICIFMS-14. The scope of HDM-2 includes researches on development of high damping materials of various kinds, techniques of measurements and applications of high damping materials in various fields. The following sessions are tentatively planned
1. High damping alloys
2. High damping ceramics
3. Damping of polymers
4. High damping glasses
5. High damping composites
6. Applications of high damping materials

7. Measuring techniques of high damping
