▼Rethinking the solidarity of earth citizen and Coexistence of the human
When I was young,I always felt distraught at the sight of homeless people who have no legs or arms, and even more so by those who cover the scars of burns on their faces with scarves. I relieved these strong feelings shortly after I came to Japan to study. They came about when I visited the atomic bomb sites of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I then realized that the people that the disfigured and dismembered people of my childhood memories were victims from Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and the Korean War.
August 6th 1945, a most famous day, the day that Hiroshima was bombed with the world’s first nuclear weapon. In a brief instant, the lives of thousands of inhabitants were extinguished by one single bomb, nicknamed the “Little Boy” by the Americans. The Americans justified the use of this awesome weapon as a means to bring to a quick end a war of attrition commenced by the Japanese Empire.
In 1995, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum put on an exhibition of the “Enola Gay”, the famous bomber plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The museum used the exhibit to portray the American side of the bombings, but the Japanese people asked the museum if they could use the exhibit to promote human rights and world peace. Regardless of the reasons for dropping the two weapons, the actual act proved to everyone around the world the physical and political power that nuclear weapons give to countries who wish to bring another country to its knees. This thus opened the door for countries like China, India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea to start their own nuclear weapons programs. It also sparked off the most famous race in history, the Soviet-American arms race in which both countries raced to create the most devastating stockpile of nuclear arms in the world.
Many people around the world hope that global peace can be achieved through demilitarization and arms reduction, yet Americas military might is being used even now to crusade around the world and create victims out of innocents.
Many of these innocents have been victimized by The United States Armed Forces use of newly developed Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Weapons, ABC Weapons, that have been used in several wars, from Vietnam to the second Gulf War. Residual effects from Agent Orange and depleted Uranium shells have deformed and maimed thousands around the world.
An increase in PMC(private military companies), the use of bomblet type devices, and the development of sophisticated military robots are dehumanizing was and are therefore threatening human society. Do we humans, have to repeat the cycle of “sacrifice and revenge” caused by our warlike desires?
Today information has never been so easy to access. This technology has made it easier for concerned citizens to unite and share their ideas on how we can make a safer tomorrow.
The Earth is a place that all humans share, not just one country, and thus everyone has a responsibility for the well-being of this place we call home. If an army power or authoritarian power took complete ownership of the earth, there would be a high possibility that our future would be controlled and censored to the point of having no right to free will or free thought.(1Dec.2006,Summary of ISUD Conference)
