Prospective Students

Regular Students

Undergraduate Students

Students who enroll in the university for four or more years and earn the prescribed number of credits are awarded a degree. Students in the School Education and the Educational Specialist Course earn a Bachelor of Education. Students who earn the credits stipulated by the School Teacher's License Act, based on their curriculum, are also awarded the appropriate teaching license.

Graduate Students (Master's Program)

Students who enroll in TGU's Graduate School (master's program) for two or more years, earn the prescribed number of credits, pass a review of their Master's dissertation,depending on the program and seminars they participated in, will be awarded a master's degree.

Graduate Students (Doctoral Program)

Students who enroll in the Graduate School (doctoral program) for three or more years, earn the prescribed number of credits, pass a review of their doctoral dissertation, and pass their final exam will be awarded a doctoral degree.

Non-Regular Students

Research Students

These are students who conduct research on a specific topic under the guidance of an academic advisor. Their term of enrollment is usually six months or one year. They are not awarded any special degrees or certifications.

Applications with a recommendation from our partner universities and submitted from them are only acceptable. Each partner university is allowed to recommend only one student.
The deadline for this application is February 10th, 2023.

MEXT Japanese Studies Students


Following contents will show you the procedure of application for university recommended "Japanese Studies Student" in 2022
MEXT Guideline(in JP), Required Documents
The applicants must be enrolled as Japanese major undergraduate student at home institute.(It is necessary that the words of 'Japanese Language' or 'Japanese Culture' must be included in one's major or sub-major.) To apply for it, the applicants are expected to pass the screening at home university, and to send your application forms through the contact person.
Furthermore, we do not place a limit on the number of applicants from each sister university in this year. The deadline for this time application is March 4th, 2022.

MEXT Japanese Studies Student Course Guide

Non-matriculated Students

Non-TGU students who take one or more classes at TGU are referred to as non-matriculated students. Non-matriculated students who pass a test for a subject covered by the course they are taking will earn the prescribed credits for that course.

Exchange Students 交換留学生 (Undergraduate/Graduate level)

Exchange students are international students from TGU's partner universities with which TGU has students exchange agreement. They take classes for one semester to one year at TGU and a transcript will be issued for the courses taken.

Please complete the application forms and send them by postal mail with other requirements indicated on the first page of application forms. Please note that application forms for ISEP and General Program are different.
*You can apply for either ISEP or General Program for Autumn semester every year. For Spring semester we recruit only General Program exchange students as ISEP academic year starts from Autumn Semester.

When tuition is revised during the period of enrollment, the new tuition will be applied from the time of the revision.

Tuition waiver

Tuition is paid each year by the end of April for the spring semester (April-September) and by the end of October for the autumn semester (October-March). Students who cannot make the payments for financial or other reasons may request a tuition waiver or extension of the payment deadline by submitting the necessary documents by the designated date (deadline).

The tuition waivers and delayed payment application deadlines and other particulars are displayed on the tuition waivers bulletin board (in front of the Natural Science Division Research Building).

Students who have repeated a year without a particular reason (leave of absence due to sickness or student exchange) and students with poor grades are not eligible for tuition waivers.

International Student Exchange Center (GISEC)

The International Student Exchange Center serves a wide variety of purposes. It offers Japanese language preparatory education and Japanese Studies classes to international students, provides counseling and advice related to both academics and everyday living, and investigates best practices in education.
